I’m less than a month away from my new middle school teacher job. I’m working part-time at a small newspaper in another county. The money from work helps, but I’m still struggling to make ends meet until I start full-time teaching. I can’t work many jobs because my arthritic knees are so painful that standing for long periods or lifting things isn’t possible. (I’ve learned how to navigate a classroom with my disability.) I plan to keep my promise to close this page on Aug. 11, the first day of the rest of my life.
